Bio
I am a Hebrew philologist specializing in the critical study of biblical literature and the Dead Sea Scrolls. My research concerns the literary, linguistic and textual development of biblical books and Second Temple works, highlighting the interrelationship between textual criticism, historical-linguistic analysis of Biblical Hebrew, and the literary transformations of the ancient compositions. Many of my publications deal with biblical prophecy as well as the religious poetry and liturgy found among the Qumran scrolls.
Born and educated in Jerusalem, I earned my academic degrees at the Hebrew University: BA in Bible and the Program in Interdisciplinary Studies (2000, summa cum laude), MA (2003, magna cum laude), and PhD (2009, summa cum laude) in Bible. My doctoral dissertation, supervised by Professor Avi Hurvitz, dealt with the “Lexicon and Phraseology of the Songs of the Sabbath Sacrifice”; it was written with the generous support of the Nathan Rotenstreich Fellowship for Outstanding Graduate Students in the Humanities (2004/5–7/8), on behalf of the Planning and Budgeting Committee of the Council for Higher Education in Israel.
I was a post-doctoral fellow at Harvard University (2008/9) and Georg-August-Universität Göttingen (2010–12), before joining Tel Aviv University as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Hebrew Culture Studies, with the support of the Allon Fellowship of the Council for Higher Education in Israel (2012/3–14/15). In 2017/18, I was promoted to Associate Professor at the reconstituted Department of Biblical Studies, and served as its Chair in 2017/8–18/19.
In 2019/20, I was a Visiting Fellow at the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies and Wolfson College, University of Cambridge.
In 2020/21, I returned, as a faculty member, to the Department of Bible at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. I serve as its Chair since 2021/22. I also serve as the Director of Orion Center for the Study of the Dead Sea Scrolls and Associated Literature. In addition to these institutional affiliations, I am also a member of the Israel Young Academy (2018–22), established by the Israel Academy of Sciences and the Humanities.
Since 2020, I serve as co-editor of Meghillot, a Hebrew journal dedicated to the study of the Dead Sea Scrolls and Second Temple literature, together with Devorah Dimant and Liora Goldman; and since 2021—as co-editor of Mikra LeYisrael (Bible for Israel), a series of Hebrew scholarly commentaries on the books of the Hebrew Bible, together with Shmuel Ahituv. In addition, I am a member of the editorial boards of several scholarly journals and book series, including Revue de Qumran (since 2015), Textus (since 2017), Beit Mikra (since 2018), and Vetus Testamentum (since 2022).

אני פילולוג עברי המתמחה במחקר ביקורתי של ספרות המקרא ומגילות מדבר יהודה. מחקריי דנים בהתפתחות הספרותית, הלשונית והטקסטואלית של ספרי המקרא וחיבורים מימי הבית השני, בדגש על יחסי הגומלין בין ביקורת הנוסח, בלשנות היסטורית של העברית הקדומה וגלגוליהן הספרותיים של היצירות העתיקות. בפרסומיי המדעיים דנתי במיוחד בספרות הנבואה המקראית ובשירה והתפילה במגילות מדבר יהודה.
אני יליד ירושלים, ואת תאריי האקדמיים עשיתי באוניברסיטה העברית: ב"א במקרא ובתוכנית הרב-תחומית (תשנ"ז–תשנ"ט), מ"א במקרא (תש"ס–תשס"ב) ודוקטורט (תשס"ג–תשס"ח). את עבודת הדוקטור, "הלקסיקון והפרזיאולוגיה של שירות עולת השבת", כתבתי בהנחייתו של פרופ' אבי הורביץ ובתמיכתה הנדיבה של המלגה ע"ש נתן רוטנשטרייך מטעם הוועדה לתכנון ולתקצוב (ות"ת) של המועצה להשכלה גבוהה (מל"ג).
לאחר השתלמויות בתר-דוקטורט באוניברסיטאות הרווארד, ארצות הברית (תשס"ט) וגטינגן, גרמניה (תשע"א–תשע"ב), הצטרפתי לסגל החוג ללימודי התרבות העברית באוניברסיטת תל-אביב בדרגת מרצה בכיר ובתמיכת מלגת אלון מטעם המועצה להשכלה גבוהה (תשע"ג–תשע"ה). בשנת תשע"ח קודמתי לדרגת פרופסור חבר בחוג למקרא, אשר כונן מחדש באוניברסיטת תל-אביב, וכיהנתי בתפקיד ראש החוג בשנים תשע"ח–תשע"ט. בשנת תש"ף שהיתי בשבתון באוניברסיטת קיימברידג', אנגליה, והייתי שם עמית אורח בפקולטה לחקר המזרח התיכון ואסיה ובקולג' וולפסון.
בשנת תשפ"א שבתי לחוג למקרא באוניברסיטה העברית, והחל משנת תשפ"ב אני מכהן בתפקיד ראש החוג. אני גם נושא בתפקיד של מנהל מרכז אוריון לחקר מגילות מדבר יהודה והספרות הקרובה להן. בנוסף לתפקידים מוסדיים אלה, גם הייתי חבר האקדמיה הצעירה הישראלית (בשנים 2018–2022) מטעם האקדמיה הלאומית הישראלית למדעים.
מאז שנת תש"ף אני עורך שותף של 'מגילות', כתב-העת העברי היחיד המוקדש לחקר מגילות מדבר יהודה וספרות הבית השני, לצד פרופ' דבורה דימנט וד"ר ליאורה גולדמן. מאז שנת תשפ"א אני עורך שותף של 'מקרא לישראל', סדרת פירושים מדעיים לספרי המקרא, לצד פרופ' שמואל אחיטוב. פרט לכך אני חבר במועצות המערכת של כמה וכמה כתבי-עת וסדרות ספרים, כגון Revue de Qumran (מאז 2015), Textus (מאז 2017), 'בית מקרא' (מאז 2018), Vetus Testamentum (מאז 2022).
