Much of Hebrew literature of the Second Temple period—as witnessed directly by the Dead Sea Scrolls and in translation by the Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha of the Old Testament—consists of poetic works, some of which had a liturgical function, or incorporated within literary descriptions of liturgical contexts.

In several studies, I have contributed to the descriptive and historical poetics of such poetic works, major aspects of which are still terra incognita, especially when compared to the extensive research devoted to earlier stages of Hebrew poetry (namely, biblical poetry) and subsequent corpora (especially piyyut, that is, Hebrew liturgical poetry of the Byzantine period).

חלק ניכר מאוד מן הספרות העברית של ימי הבית השני – כפי שנתגלתה בין מגילות מדבר יהודה או שנודעה בלשונות תרגום בספרים החיצונים – כולל חיבורי שירה, שחלקם נועדו לשמש בתור תפילות, או ששולבו בתוך תיאורים ספרותיים של תפילות. במחקריי אני מבקש להאיר את הפואטיקה התיאורית וההיסטורית שלהם, שטרם זכתה לניתוחים ממצים, במיוחד בהשוואה למחקר הענף שהוקדש לניתוח הטקסטים ודרכי השיר ברובדי הספרות העברית קודם לימי הבית השני (השירה שבמקרא) או לאחריהם (בפיוט הקדום, דהיינו שירת הקודש שנכתבה בתקופה הביזנטית).
